Group Exhibition The Wall at the End of the Rainbow
Jan van Eyck Academie, Maastricht, Netherlands

SUPERFICIAL is a project by Jorgge Menna Barreto and Joélson Buggilla which aims to close the widening imaginative distance between food and its chain of production. This is one of two iterations of the project presented at the JVE. In their studio, they launch the first volume of their magazine Enzyme, which suggests thinking of the surface of the page, the earth and the table as part of one ecosystem. In the vegetable garden, they dug up a thin layer of the topsoil and placed a table upside down so that the earth and the tabletop meet. Between these surfaces, they placed a white linen tablecloth that will absorb an impression of the ground—like a page absorbs ink in the printing process. Each day of Open Studios, they will make a new “print,” which will then be hung in the exhibition space.
