Tomando as características urbanas de Porto Alegre como objeto de investigação, Inseguro, realizada a convite da 3ª Bienal do Mercosul, apresenta um objeto e um vídeo. O primeiro era um prisma retangular construído com grades residenciais como faces, nas dimensões de um contêiner de navio — replicando as dimensões dos contêineres ocupados por artistas que figuravam naquela Bienal. O vídeo (realizado em parceria com a artista Tula Agnostopoulus) mostra fachadas gradeadas em bairros residenciais de Porto Alegre, intercaladas com as letras que formam a palavra “inseguro”.

A instalação de grades, resposta doméstica ao medo da violência urbana, é posta como um tipo de enunciação: a renúncia ou descrédito em uma possibilidade de convivência social; bem como a construção de um senso de comunidade onde o Outro é entendido como ameaça e o que se possui, algo a ser protegido do que está lá fora no espaço público.

Taking the urban characteristics of Porto Alegre as an object of investigation, Insecure [Inseguro], held at the invitation of the 3rd Mercosul Biennial, presents an object and a video. The first was a rectangular prism built with residential grids as faces, in the dimensions of a ship’s container – replicating the dimensions of the containers occupied by artists featured in that Biennial. The video (made in partnership with the artist Tula Agnostopoulus) shows meshed facades in residential neighborhoods in Porto Alegre, interspersed with the letters that form the word “insecure”.

The installation of bars, a domestic response to the fear of urban violence, is seen as a type of enunciation: renunciation or discredit in a possibility of social coexistence; as well as the construction of a sense of community where the Other is understood as a threat and what one has, something to be protected from what is out there in the public space.
